Patrick Garnier - Photographer
My name is Patrick Garnier, I am 71 years old, and photography has been my passion for over forty years.
It all began in the 80s, during the film era. I would take portraits, developing my own photos in the darkroom, to the slow and precious rhythm of the developing baths. An era I will never forget — it taught me to look before I shoot.
Today, I live and photograph from Pornichet, on the Atlantic coast. My favorite subjects? The sea, the morning's raking light, crashing waves, silhouettes on the beach, the wild nature I seek out on long walks. I don't hunt for photos — I wait for them. Patiently, on the lookout for a scene, a light, a moment.
Street photography also holds an important place in my work. I don't warn people that I'm going to photograph them — to preserve spontaneity, avoid posed shots, capture life as it is. But once the photo is taken, I always go to them to show them. And those moments are often the best of the day: a smile, a surprise, a conversation that starts with a stranger. Photography as an excuse for meeting others.
Finally, there's post-processing, which I deeply enjoy. It's where the photo reveals its full potential — just like in the developing bath back then. The tools have changed, but the demand for excellence has remained the same.
My prints are produced on professional-grade media, at accessible prices. Because I've always believed that a beautiful photo deserves to be hung, not stored on a hard drive.
